Valerie passed away on the evening of Saturday, November 25, 2023 after several days of quality and compassionate care of the Ochsner medical team.

Valerie was born on October 2, 1954, and was preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by her son, Allen Cavalier of Baton Rouge and a brother, Chip Hatchell of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. A private interment will be in Maryland.

Valerie was a dynamic and talented person with an unmatched passion for life. Her memory will be forever cherished by her family, friends, and colleagues. That memory as a mother, sister, and friend will endure, and her spirit will continue to inspire us all. She was a bright star in this often-difficult world and will be missed by so many friends and family members. We were completely unprepared for this unexpected loss and miss her greatly. She will live on in our hearts, and we will forever honor the legacy of a remarkable woman who made a lasting impact on the world.
