Neil Peart was the drummer of the popular progressive rock band Rush for 45 years. He was highly regarded as one of the greatest drummers in rock music. Sadly, in January of 2020, he passed away after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma, a brain cancer. The band asked that fans wishing to express their condolences make a donation to a cancer center of their choice.
In 2023, a group of local musicians and fans of the band decided to form a tribute band (initially called Driven: A Tribute to Rush, but now named Celebrate Rush") and stage a benefit concert to raise funds and awareness - since one of the band members was a physician @ Ochsner Health (Dr. Bobby Rodwig), the Ochsner Neuroscience Institute was our chosen as our partner.
The event was a wonderful success, and a $3500 donation was made to the Neuroscience Institute.
We are excited to announce that we have scheduled another concert this year! The benefit concert will take place on at 8:30pm on Saturday May 11th, at the Rock n' Bowl, located on 3016 South Carrolton Avenue.
We are calling the event "The 2d Annual Celebrate Neil", a benefit for the Ochsner Neuroscience Institute (a flyer is included in this announcement).
Funds raised from Celebrate Neil: An Evening of Rush will provide assistance and offer support to Glioblastoma, brain cancer patients and their families at Ochsner. Patient assistance funds help to reduce the concern that comes from the unforeseen costs of illness. Things like communication, transportation, lodging and meals can become overwhelming for patients and their families.
These funds support the most critically ill brain cancer patients so that they can focus on their care and their family can focus on offering the best support possible.
This is possible only because our contributors’ generosity empowers Ochsner to pursue research, education and innovations in patient care and treatment that set us apart and enable us to advance healthcare for the good of our patients, our community and beyond.
